As we approach the imminent release of Marika Hackman’s second album I’m Not Your Man, the artist takes a step back from the fiery, grunge-doused realm of tracks ‘Boyfriend’ and ‘My Lover Cindy’ for an understated listen. ‘Cigarette’ is reminiscent of those early, acoustic musings Hackman released prior to her debut work, the We Slept At Last LP. Delicate finger-picking sets the scene of an artist unfolding their thoughts in solitude. It’s reflective, romantic and touches on a tender fragility around youth, love and the all-consuming mix of the two. Yet to put a foot wrong, we’re incredibly excited for the I’m Not Your Man release on June 2nd via AMF Records. - HT
